1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site.
2. How we use cookies
SimpleCompanyTax uses cookies to: authenticate users and prevent fraudulent use of user accounts; maintain your session while you prepare your tax filings; remember your preferences and settings; keep our platform secure and reliable.
3. Types of cookies we use
Strictly necessary cookies — Required for the operation of our platform. They include cookies that enable you to log into secure areas of our platform. They also include a small cookie named sct_consent that remembers the choice you make in our cookie banner. It stores only the word granted or denied and nothing that identifies you. We keep it so we do not have to ask you on every visit and so that any conversion we report to Google respects your choice. Without these cookies, the services you have asked for cannot be provided.
Analytical / performance cookies — These let us recognise and count visitors and see how visitors move around our platform, so we can improve how it works. We use Google Analytics and Google Ads for this, which set cookies such as _ga and _ga_<property> (typically lasting up to 2 years). These are not strictly necessary. The Google tag loads for all visitors, but until you accept analytics via our cookie banner it runs in a cookieless mode: no analytics or advertising cookies are set, and Google receives only aggregate, non-identifying signals that cannot link your visits together. If you decline or later withdraw consent, we stop analytics and clear any analytics cookies already set.
Advertising-measurement cookies — When you accept, Google Ads may set cookies to measure whether a subscription resulted from one of our adverts (a conversion). These carry no tax, accounting, banking, or financial transaction data, and none are set before you consent. They typically last up to 90 days. You can withdraw consent at any time below. If you subscribe after clicking one of our adverts, we may also report that conversion to Google from our own servers. That report includes your cookie banner choice, so Google knows whether you agreed to your data being used for ad measurement. It never includes your name, email address, or any tax or financial data.
