How to export Sage Accounting reports for a CT600
Short version. Export your prepared Sage Accounting profit and loss, trial balance or balance sheet as CSV, then review its filing lines before applying the figures. #Simple CompanyTax supports these report imports for a CT600 and annual accounts filing, including reports without column headings.

1. Before you export
This guide covers Sage Accounting, the cloud product. For Sage 50 desktop or another package, follow the generic CSV and Excel guide and choose your columns manually.
Finish preparing your accounts first. Export profit and loss for the full accounts period and the balance sheet at its end date. Use the full period even when it is longer than 12 months. After import, the wizard lists relevant amounts to allocate between both Corporation Tax returns.
2. Export from Sage Accounting
Standard profit and loss
- Open Reports, then Profit and loss - standard.
- Under Period, select Custom and enter the accounts start and end dates.
- Select Calculate, then Export and CSV.
Customisable profit and loss
- Open Reports, then Profit and Loss - customisable.
- Edit Period in the Customise report panel and select your full date range. Select Run Report.
- For monthly columns, use Columns to include the full-period total or Year to date closing balance. Check that it covers your accounts dates.
- Choose More actions, Export, then CSV. Account codes can be shown or hidden.
Trial balance
Open Reports and Trial Balance. In versions with All reports, choose Trial Balance- Customisable. Set the report dates and run it. Use Export to save a CSV with debit and credit balances. If your trial balance summarises older profit and loss balances, import a separate profit and loss report for the full accounts period too.
Standard balance sheet
Open Reports and Balance sheet report. Set To to the accounts end date and select Calculate. Choose Export, then CSV.
3. Import and review
When Where are your figures from? appears, choose Sage Accounting and select Continue. Export guidance is linked beside the upload control. If you chose a file first, check the source guessed from that file before continuing.
An unedited export matching a recognised template goes straight to Review. A workbook with several sheets lets you choose the report first. An edited export opens Which row has your column names?. Click the heading row, or select My file has no heading row, and choose the account and amount roles above each column. Select Review mapping when the layout matches your report.
If your file clearly matches another supported software template, it is read using that template. Exported from shows the detected software and remains changeable. Edited exports use the source you chose and still need your review.
- In Financial data, select Import file and upload the CSV.
- Check Exported from says Sage Accounting. Select it yourself if hidden or renamed codes prevent detection.
- Check Report type, Heading row and the account and amount columns. Sage standard profit and loss and balance sheet reports without headings are recognised directly. On the grid for an edited report, select My file has no heading row. Codes and types are optional.
- Choose the amount covering the full period. Do not add monthly columns to their total or select a comparative year. Check How signs are shown against the report.
- Select Review mapping if needed. Review amber proposals, including renamed codes, other income, capital, drawings and uncoded equity lines. Choose the filing line or Not used, then confirm your choice.
- Select Review changes when shown, then Use these figures. Import the second statement into the same draft if you use separate reports.
Read the filing line descriptions for mapping choices. If a report type is uncertain or several amount columns could apply, choose them before continuing. If no accounts appear, check Heading row and the columns. You do not need to invent a year heading.
4. Check the result
Check the first account, turnover, costs and profit against your report. Group totals, percentage lines and calculated profit should not add to their detail accounts. Check that equity profit appears once and that assets less liabilities agree with equity. An ambiguous uncoded account stays available for your review.
Import does not change your filing dates. For a long period, use the existing Allocate controls for every amount listed in the notice. Review both Corporation Tax returns, their computations and the annual accounts before filing.
Import last year's figures
You can import the comparatives from the same report or from a separate last-year file. Companies House figures still prefill as usual. Imported prior-year figures replace the supplied lines without another prompt. Lines missing from the import keep their existing figures.
- For a report with both years, keep Import into set to This year. Open Columns and select Prior year amount. Ordered year or full-date headings propose the latest column for this year and the immediately preceding annual column for prior year. Check both selections. Monthly columns are never selected as prior year automatically.
- For a separate file, choose Prior year under Import into, upload last year's report and review its mappings. For a trial balance with separate prior Debit and Credit columns, use a separate prior-year file.
- Review the prior-year amounts and destination totals before selecting Use these figures. If you split an account between lines in a two-year report, enter each year's split amounts separately.
- Check the comparative column and prior period dates in Financial data, then save progress. The import keeps those dates unchanged. Prior-year figures are for the accounts comparatives and do not change this year's tax or two-return allocations.
Prior-year import controls are hidden for a first accounting period or when you have selected that there is no prior year.
