How to export a trial balance, profit and loss or balance sheet from Xero
Short version. Run the Xero Trial Balance for the accounting period you are filing, then export it as CSV or Excel. You can also export the Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet separately and import them one after the other in #Simple CompanyTax.

SimpleCompanyTax supports Xero report file imports for a CT600 and annual accounts filing. After exporting, follow how to import your accounting data for the complete mapping and review steps.
1. Before you export
Finish your bookkeeping and reconciliation first. Check the start and end dates against the accounting period shown in your filing. If the accounts cover more than 12 months, export the full accounts period. The filing wizard will still ask you to confirm any figures that must be allocated between the two Corporation Tax returns.
2. Export from Xero
- In Xero, open Accounting, then Reports.
- Open Trial Balance. Set the date to the end of the accounting period and update the report.
- Choose Export, then download CSV or Excel. Keep the account codes and account types in the export where Xero offers them.
- If you cannot use the Trial Balance, export Profit and Loss for the full period and Balance Sheet at the period end. Import both files into the same draft.
3. Import and review
- Open Financial data and select Import file.
- Drop the file into the upload area. Check that Xero, the report type, the heading row and the amount columns are correct.
- Review every non-zero account. Resolve each amber choice, including loans, other income, donations, property costs and equity.
- Choose Keep current, Replace or Clear for each filing field, then select Use these figures.
4. Check the result
Check the profit before tax and balance-sheet difference shown before you apply the figures. Then review the Financial data totals and generated annual accounts. A zero balance-sheet difference confirms that net assets equal equity. It does not confirm that every account has the right accounting or tax treatment.
